Policy for minimisation of plastic use
Since 2017, our campus has enforced a ban on plastic bags, including biodegradable ones, under the “Limitations on the Use of Plastic Shopping Bags” policy. In 2019, the ban was extended to single-use tableware and plastic straws in campus restaurants. In 2022, we launched a program to reduce disposable tableware and packaged drinking water. By 2023, all campus restaurants increased discounts for students and staff who bring their own eco-friendly containers, promoting a shift from single-use plastics. Additionally, cafeteria vendors are required to provide reusable containers and cups for campus events. Our Catering Management Committee also meets regularly with vendors to further reduce plastic use and minimize disposable items.
