Co-operative planning for climate change disasters

■The Disaster Prevention and Water Environment Research Centre at NYCU serves as the primary institute for collaborative projects with the government on climate change and disaster-related issues. The centre’s plans for climate change adaptation and disaster prevention include:
1.Working with the Hsinchu City Government on the project “Township Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction Adaptation to Extreme Weather Disasters.”
2.Collaborating with the Water Resources Bureau of the New Taipei City Government for the “Maintenance and Expansion of the Smart Flood Control Platform and Flood Image Recognition.”
3.Partnering with the Seventh River Management Office, Water Resources Agency, MOEA, on the “Integration of Flood Forecasting and Flood Control Operations.”

■NYCU’s interdisciplinary teams, comprising members from the College of Engineering, the College of Computer Science, and the Department of Architecture, work alongside the Taiwan AI Centre of Excellence (Taiwan AICoE) to provide technical expertise and research for the “Resilient Homeland – A Safe Environment and Disaster Prevention System Constructed by Intelligent Drones.” This drone system helps monitor landscape conditions and can be deployed for rescue operations during disasters.
