Commitment to carbon neutral university
To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, NYCU has developed the following action plans to reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions:
Scope 1 – Direct Emissions: We are conducting regular inspections and monitoring of exhaust gases directly emitted by laboratories. To directly reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases, we are also continuously planting trees on our campuses.
Scope 2 – Indirect Emissions: A substantial portion of our emissions results from electricity consumption. To address this, we are expanding our use of renewable and green energy, conducting regular greenhouse gas emissions measurements, and using the data to assess progress and implement improvements. We are also working to develop a green, carbon-reduced campus through initiatives such as tree planting and green building construction.
Scope 3 – Other Indirect Emissions: Emissions generated by faculty, staff, and students from commuting and daily activities are challenging to quantify. To address this, we offer sustainability courses to educate students and nurture future leaders across diverse fields. We also collaborate with local industries, educational institutions, and neighbouring communities to collectively support the nation’s 2050 net-zero transition strategies and create a net-zero living environment.
