Collaboration with NGOs for SDGs

■Student volunteering programmes:
The university has established numerous student volunteering programmes in partnership with NGOs, offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in tackling SDG-related issues. These programmes enable students to work directly on projects that address key areas such as poverty reduction, environmental conservation, education, and health. For example, our partnership with a leading environmental NGO “The Society of Wilderness” allows students to volunteer in beach cleanup and biodiversity projects, contributing to SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Our “Southeast Asia International Volunteer Team BAT” and “India International Volunteer Team Jullay” are committed to contributing to SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). These programmes not only provide valuable learning experiences but also make tangible contributions to community and environmental sustainability.

■Research programmes:
NYCU has launched University Social Responsibility (USR) programs to help solve regional development problems, and fulfill our social responsibility. Through the “Tribal Star Incubation by Intelligent Health for Remote Areas (iHEART)”program, we worked with the Hung Dao Home of Charity Foundation to establish a rural medical training center in Nanao, Yilan in order to cultivate medical talents. Under the “Guarding the Elderly Action Plan” program, we collaborated with NGOs on research programmes that enhance well-being and cognitive functions of the elderly.

■Development of educational resources:
Our “ewant Open Education Platform” is the largest open course platform in Taiwan. It not only shares higher education resources with the public but also focuses on expanding learning opportunities for high school students, encouraging self-directed learning and flexible course selection. We have joined the “Open Education Consortium (OEC),” an international leader in promoting open education with over 250 members from more than 150 countries, to advance international open education and provide open educational resources. Moreover, we established the “Glove Puppetry Digital Museum” to offer diversified learning that is not limited by geographical boundaries.
