Energy wastage identification

According to the Energy Management Committee and the ISO/CNS 50001 energy management system audit, the university’s total energy consumption in 2024 amounted to 81 million kilowatt hours. Energy use was primarily divided among lighting (31%), air conditioning (45%), and laboratory equipment, with the remainder used for other purposes. Smart meter data revealed that the two highest energy-consuming buildings are the Laboratory Animal Center and the Nano Facility Center. Due to the specific temperature control requirements for laboratory equipment and biological specimens, air conditioning and lighting in these labs must operate 24/7, leading to substantial energy consumption. To address this challenge, the university has devised improvement plans, including the implementation of AI-controlled air conditioning systems and upgraded lighting to enhance energy efficiency.
