Healthy and affordable food choices
The university ensures both healthy and affordable food choices are available for everyone on campus through strict regulatory adherence and targeted discount programs.
1. Healthy Food Choices and Transparency
The university mandates rigorous standards and transparency to support healthy dietary choices:
Regulation Compliance and Ingredient Tracking: All on-campus restaurants strictly adhere to Ministry of Education regulations. They must upload ingredient information and food sources to the official “Campus Food Ingredients Registration Platform” daily.
Nutrition Disclosure: Restaurants must conspicuously post the nutrition and calorie information for all foods and meals offered. This allows consumers to make well-informed, healthy choices.
2. Affordable Food Choices and Waste Reduction
The university uses several strategies to reduce meal expenses, often integrating these with food waste reduction efforts:
Value Meal Discounts: Restaurants periodically introduce value meal packages and offer discounts for students and faculty with valid IDs.
Time-Based Discounts: Cafeterias provide extra discounts for late lunch and dinner hours to cut costs for consumers and minimize food waste.
Convenience Store Initiatives: On-campus convenience stores offer “”friendly short-lived food”” discounts (a 35% or 30% discount on perishable foods) starting at 5:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m.
These measures collectively lower meal expenses for the campus community while concurrently decreasing food waste and carbon emissions.
