Water-conscious planting
The University plants primarily drought-resistant species across its campuses to minimize irrigation needs. Standard selections include succulents, rhododendrons, wild date palms, Formosan sweet gums, Livistona chinensis, autumn maples, Christ plants, and Millettia pinnata. These species thrive mainly on natural rainfall, with no need for artificial watering throughout the year. The University does not activate irrigation, demonstrating its strong commitment to water conservation. Additionally, regular pruning is performed to maintain plant health and minimize unnecessary evapotranspiration. To further enhance sustainable landscape management, a campus tree management course is offered for faculty, staff, and students, raising awareness of tree care, biodiversity, and responsible water use.
