In order to fulfill our university’s social responsibilities, NYCU aims to develop a puppet show culture in Taiwan, thereby continuing UNESCO’s sustainable development goals (shared culture, shared heritage, shared responsibility) by protecting the cultural property and integrating a new practice in the era of “sharing economy”.
Utilizing cultural puppet show is a new alternative to open up the economic and trade activities of cultural goods and services as well as bring prosperity to the cultural & creative industries. While cultural diversity, social cohesion and a sense of belonging can create peace and contribute to the establishment of harmonious partnerships, promote international cooperation on culture and education, urban communities, climate ecology, and energy.
In recent years, the development of science and technology has changed the way people communicate and interact in artistic creation: from big data, bionics, critical design, artificial intelligence, to augmented reality, virtual reality, and technology-based creation and performance, focusing on cross-domain integration. When “traditional culture” and “artistic technology” are combined, a new cross-disciplinary cooperation can further create social influence, and thus preserve Taiwan’s precious intangible cultural heritage, and achieve the possibility of more diverse practices in the future of puppet performances. Traditional puppet characters will be given new life through technology.
