Smart City Flood Prevention Platform

2021-11-26

The Disaster Prevention and Water Environment Research Center assisted New Taipei City Government Water Resources Bureau in developing the New Taipei City Smart River Planning and Flood Prevention Platform (hereafter the Smart City Flood Prevention Platform). The urban smart control platform collects and compiles water resource data, including meteorological radar return waves, flood prevention signs from ground rainfall stations, measurements from road flooding sensors, and gauging station measurements from stormwater channels to rivers. By using an IoT (Internet of Things) system for timely and automated data analysis, the platform provides real-time data and flood warning management parameters, including urban drainage capacity and river flood warning management. The platform can accurately predict potential flood areas, thereby serving as a novel tool for urban disaster prevention and early flood warning.
