NYCU’s Occupational Safety And Health Management Meets International Standards, Certified by ISO 45001_2018

2023-02-10

NYCU uses the “10-Year Plan” to develop and build a secure, friendly, and healthy campus environment, which also serves as a commitment to teachers, students, alumni, and the nation’s society. In November 2021, the Yangming Campus was certified by the British Standards Institution (BSI), bringing campus safety in accord with international standards, thus creating a safety net for the future and the cultivation of talents following the merging of the universities.

Through the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) framework, the “ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard”, offers a set of practical process management tools for work safety, which can be used to improve the safety of the workplace. The campus laboratory contains a variety of chemicals, toxic substances, dangerous machinery and equipment, sources of biological infection, and sources of radiation. Thus, a proper safety and health management system is needed to reduce or even eliminate hazards in such a workplace. The university attaches great importance to campus safety. Within one year of the merging, it completed ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system certification of both the Yangming and Chiaotung Campus to ensure a safe and healthy working, research, and studying environment for faculty and students.

In addition, NYCU not only passing  the ISO 45001 certification, it also invested resources into building a digital environmental safety and health management system, so that safety and health-related matters, including personnel and site management, education training, procurement of regulated materials, waste management, and emergency response resources can be implemented in accordance with the ISO 45001 occupational health and safety framework to improve the safety of campus environments.
