Encouraging teachers to communicate across domains and continue to grow as educators

2023-05-30

To maintain the professional quality of teaching and provide students with a high-quality learning experience, the NYCU Center of Teaching and Learning Development encourages teachers to form teacher communities, promote community-based positive support and self-growth in the teaching field, and carry out cross-domain teaching development and experience exchange to continuing deepen their professionalism, innovate teaching methods, and then use what they have learned in the classroom. In 2021, NYCU promoted a total of 11 cross-domain teacher communities, with a total of 47 teachers participating. The themes of community operations include teaching experience sharing and discussions, development of cross-domain research topics, innovative teaching strategies, and the development of new courses.

In addition to the on-campus teacher community, the university also offers subsidized programs for cross-campus teacher communities. Teachers from two institutions of higher education are allowed to form a teacher community across the campuses to harness the teaching enthusiasm of teachers from different institutions and share the various campus atmospheres and student learning characteristics and experiences through community activities. This helps teachers reflect on their teaching models and processes, while also assisting them to work together and promoting teaching excellence. In 2021, a total of 87 teachers from 42 institutions of higher education in Taiwan were promoted to form 17 cross-campus teacher communities. On November 20 of that same year, a community achievement exhibition was held, and teachers from all communities were invited to display their experiences and results in curriculum improvement, assessment design, and teaching practice research.
