Taiwan’s annual biotechnology event, BIO Asia-Taiwan, will be held in 2020 as scheduled despite the pandemic using a new Online + Live model. This is Asia’s first global large-scale international conference and in-person exhibition during the pandemic. The themed pavilion of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) Business Center of Industry–Academia Liaison will also be on display from July 23 to 26 in Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2, R725.

As the first medical university in Taiwan with a medical background and a focus in biotechnology, National Yang Ming University will showcase the largest scale themed pavilion in the Bio Asia Taiwan 2020 this year. A wide array of showcases has been planned with the Business Center of Industry–Academia Liaison in the lead, including an innovative technology presentation by associate professors Tsai Jin-Wu and Yang Chih-Chieh of Institute of Brain Science, in collaboration with the Global Research and Industry Alliance. In addition, exhibitions will also be held by the resident companies sponsored by the university’s Incubatory Center that cover industrial–academia medical breakthroughs in, for example, mature-aged nutritional food, innovative medical materials, cell and regenerative medicine, and precision medicine and gene testing.

This year, NYCU Yangming Campus has again attained breakthroughs in its industry–academic research and development (R&D) capacities, enabling the world to witness the results of Taiwan’s pandemic prevention efforts and putting Taiwan on the world stage. One of the outstanding enterprises in the exhibition area, iWEECARE Co., Ltd, will showcase the world’s smallest networking smart body temperature patch, which provides automatic, remote, and continuous body temperature monitoring and early warning functions. The patch is capable of “active and continuous monitoring of multiple people’s body temperature,” making it especially valuable during this pandemic for everyone around the world. Another noteworthy enterprise is Enlighten Materials, which was founded by the teachers and students of NYCU’s School of Dentistry. With a focus on the development of 3D-printed dental and biological materials, Enlighten Materials is the first team in Taiwan to pass the FDA certification of 3D-printed printed temporary dentures.

Numerous other outstanding enterprises at the exhibition will also unveil their latest upcoming products, including LAUREL NUTRILAB that will introduce five new flavors of Nutri-Soup, each of which containing rich protein and dietary fibers to ensure sufficient nutrition intake. Another noteworthy enterprise is Bened Biomedical Co., Ltd founded by the Asian probiotic expert Dr. Tsai Ying-Chieh, who led the development of InSeed, a functional probiotics brand. The exhibition will also feature other R&D products related to cosmetic surgery, medicine, and medical materials.

NYCU’s Business Center of Industry–Academia Liaison helps academics contribute to industry and is at the forefront of biomedical breakthroughs. It is hoped that BIO Asia-Taiwan will bring these breakthroughs to a wider audience and attract increased opportunities for multi-technology matching.
