Building on brownfield sites

The Yangming Campus was built on the site which used to be a quarry site. The Guangfu Campus was once the ROC Army’s Camp Weiwu. In 1978, the University was allowed to purchase Camp Weiwu and surrounding private lands to build the new campus. To keep up with the school’s rapid development, starting in 1981, the University began acquiring land from the army’s Camp Jih-Hsin and leasing land from the Hsinchu Science Park until the campus land acquisition project was completed in 1996. The Tainan Campus was built in 2002 with a land acquisition budget from the Tainan County government, providing the University with 100 hectares of land for campus construction free of charge. The College of Artificial Intelligence, Center for Academia and Industry Collaboration, and Incubation R&D Park are all established on the Tainan Campus, positioning it as an academia and industry collaboration and research park with hopes of becoming the industry development hub of southern Taiwan.
