Educating Students on a Gender-Aware Relationship Philosophy

2023-02-03

In order to educate teachers and students on the awareness and concepts of gender equality, the Mental Health and Counseling Center of NYCU cooperated with various departments to hold a series of lectures, seminars, and various activities. This helps to clarify the issue of gender equality and create a positive and friendly campus atmosphere.

Together with other NYCU departments, the Mental Health and Counseling Center host 58 lectures on gender equality in 2021, with the participation of over 2,948 students and faculty members. The lectures helped faculty members and students in developing and maintaining a healthy relationship while raising the awareness of gender equality.

During the epidemic, intimate relationships can be affected by stressors and changes. As a result, the Mental Health and Counseling Center held the lecture “Becoming the Ideal Partner in Times of Epidemic Prevention – Communication in Close Relationships,” in which the psychologist Jane Lin introduced students to the four major killers of relationships—criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and building walls. Additionally, the lecture also taught students how to identify six emotions in ourselves and others. These ideas are helpful for maintain close relationship and developing proper communication techniques during an epidemic.
