The “International Day” event, first held in 2007, in the Chiaotung Campus of NYCU has become an annual campus-wide event. The purpose of the event is to promote cross-cultural interaction between local and overseas students both on and off campus and to provide opportunities for mutual understanding. Following the merger of the two universities, the first International Day was celebrated at the Yangming Campus in 2022. It is hoped that overseas students from the two campuses will visit one another, communicate more, and promote integration through this event.
The International Day was held on each of the two campuses. The Chiaotung Campus held the event on February 16, with a total of 7 booths, including Vietnamese, Indian, and Indonesian student associations, overseas Chinese student associations, international student associations, and mainland Chinese student associations. In response to the festival, the Chiaotung Campus also held a special “OIA Celebrate Lantern Festival” event, allowing overseas students to participate in the riddle-guessing tradition and taste glutinous rice balls, both essential parts of the Lantern Festival.
The event at Yangming Campus was held on February 19, with students from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Eswatini, and other countries setting up booths during the event. On the day of the event, students at each booth donned the traditional attire of their country, selling traditional delicacies and cultural crafts.
This cultural ceremony attracted the participation of local and international students. Overseas students took this opportunity to meet more people studying in Taiwan and to share their culture with local students. The interaction between overseas students and local students added zest to internationally friendly campus life.
