Relaxing library entry requirements allows community access to the resources of the halls of higher education

2023-03-28

To implement social responsibility by providing proper public access, the library established and put into effect an updated “Library Policies” in 2021. Under the new policy version, individuals must be at least 18 years old to exchange their IDs outside of the university to enter the library (the former Chiaotung Campus stipulated that they must be at least 20 years old). Anyone outside the university who is at least 18 can exchange an ID document for a temporary reading card to enter the library. They can browse the rich textual resources of the two campuses, use computers or the wireless network in the inquiry area, and browse the high-quality Internet and electronic resources.

In 2021, due to the SARS-Cov-2 and the ensuing epidemic prevention policies, the libraries were closed to the public for several months; overall, there were still 26,444 off-campus users of the service in months libraries were open (January-May, October-December). The use of library resources in the two campuses shows that the university provides a comfortable, safe, and high-quality learning environment for the community and other self-taught individuals using high-quality academic resources, and understands its social responsibility of providing higher quality public education services.
