Building an interactive distance learning environment and sharing course resources across campuses

2023-06-16

In 2021, NYCU built 10 interactive distance learning classrooms. Using different teaching scenarios and automatic tracking cameras, the courses overcome the limitations of geographical boundaries and achieve the goal of taking courses beyond the campus areas. Currently, NYCU plans to build 8 distance learning classrooms in 2022 and 6 more in 2023; at the same time, it will update the hardware and software of the classrooms to meet the needs of teachers and students for off-campus teaching and learning.

In addition to providing complete software and hardware resources for distance learning classrooms, there are also portable mobile devices such as 60 Logitech 4K webcams, 14 professional cameras, and 14 tripods distributed over campus for the lending and use of the university’s teachers and students.

For teachers and teaching assistants, the NYCU Office of Academic Affairs also provides training in the functions of distance learning software, including the use of professional software such as Google Meet and Cisco Webex. Affected students can not only participate in course simultaneous learning but also conduct self-study and supplementary courses through NYCU’s OpenCourseWare (OCW).
