Global Water Monitoring using Multi-sensor Satellite Remote Sensing

2023-10-24

At the 2022 Taiwan International Water Week International Forum, a paper was presented introducing the use of multi-sensor satellite remote sensing technology for the monitoring of global water resources. The presentation covered key concepts in the field of satellite remote sensing for monitoring water resources, such as satellite image resolution, satellite programs related to monitoring water resources, the development of geospatial big data infrastructure, and plans for global satellite remote sensing of water resources. The research has provided examples, including freshwater ecosystems for the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.6.1, the NASA’s global water resource monitor, the ESA’s lake water quality monitor, and the JAXA’s water cycle monitoring.
