Invitation to the NYCU Liberal Arts Lecture for the Second Semester of the 113th Academic Year

Dear Faculty and Students of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University,

In an era where artificial intelligence and digital technology are rapidly evolving, how can we ensure that humanistic care and professional ethics remain integral to our practices? This semester’s Liberal Arts Lecture invites you to join us in exploring this pressing issue.

We are honored to welcome Professor Yuh-Jyh Jong as our distinguished speaker. A recipient of the 2021 Taiwan Medical Role Model Award, Professor Jong has dedicated his career to medical education reform, pediatric medicine, and interdisciplinary talent development. His efforts in transforming medical education have reshaped clinical training, ensuring that learning is no longer just observational but truly integrated into a structured system—from clerkship to internship, residency, and attending physician training. This reform has significantly enhanced the clinical competence and humanistic sensibilities of future medical professionals.

During his tenure as Vice President and President of Kaohsiung Medical University, Professor Jong spearheaded initiatives in moral education and academic ethics**, introducing courses such as “Model Learning”, which broaden students’ interdisciplinary perspectives while emphasizing both professional knowledge and social responsibility.

This lecture, titled “From Humanistic Care to Altruistic Service: A Scholarly Journey in Rare Neuromuscular Diseases,” will feature Professor Jong sharing his profound reflections on medical education, his construction of ethical reasoning, and his insights into integrating technology and the humanities in education in the digital era. We sincerely invite faculty and students interested in medicine, education, and the intersection of technology, society, and the humanities to join us in this enlightening discussion.
