10/08 The Art Pilgrimage × Free DIY Workshop — From Xiangshan to Setouchi

When art enters a community, it is not only about admiring artworks but also about reinterpreting the land, people, and everyday life.

This lecture, co-organized by the NYCU Office of Sustainability and Social Responsibility (NYCU-SSR) and the Hsinchu City Government, invites the co-founder of Spore Studio to share how art co-creation connects communities, local businesses, and residents in Xiangshan, Hsinchu, and how design can reinterpret local culture while building a participatory artistic journey.

The speaker will also bring insights from fieldwork at the Setouchi Triennale in Japan, exploring how Japan has transformed remote islands into “art islands” and reflecting on what Taiwan can learn through dialogue and comparison. This is not only an “art pilgrimage” from Xiangshan to Setouchi but also an inspiring conversation on place-making, cultural practices, and artistic actions.
