Raising AI Literacy for All: NYCU Promotes Semiconductor and AI Education, Aiming to Make Technology Education a Nationwide Movement

2025-04-14

COMPUTEX 2024 recently concluded successfully, drawing attention as four major artificial intelligence (AI) tech giants gathered in Taiwan. On June 12, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) announced the launch of a nationwide popular science education initiative focusing on semiconductors and AI. This initiative includes six themes and six hours of popular science courses covering AI principles and technologies.

Promotes Semiconductor Knowledge and AI Education to Inspire Young Minds

NYCU has long been dedicated to promoting semiconductor knowledge through its “Big Brother and Big Sister Talk Semiconductors” program in collaboration with industry partners. This program aims to inspire young students’ learning motivation and interest in a simple and understandable way. The NYCU has further organized its AI-related resources to launch popular science courses on AI principles and technologies, allowing more students interested in AI to delve deeper into the mysteries of AI.

President Chi-Hung Lin of NYCU stated that Taiwan has a well-established semiconductor industry ecosystem, which forms the foundation of the AI industry. As the AI era approaches, now is a crucial moment for Taiwan to develop AI. The development trends in the technology industry in 2024 will undoubtedly focus on AI. Educational institutions should actively participate in promoting education, making technology education not just a matter of higher education but a nationwide movement.

The Importance of “Motivation” in Popular Science Education

President Chi-Hung Lin emphasized that the purpose of popular science education is to “ignite motivation” rather than simply “simplify and infuse knowledge.” The popular science courses at NYCU aim to stimulate students’ self-learning motivation, enabling those interested in science and engineering to actively engage in AI and semiconductor studies in the future.

At the same time, students interested in other fields can understand the applications of AI and semiconductors, allowing all disciplines to benefit from and create value-added AI applications.

Years ago, NYCU collaborated with the industry to promote semiconductor popular science programs. Building on this foundation, the university is further advancing AI education, also supporting Acer Group founder Stan Shih’s recent advocacy for an AI learning voucher for all.

President Chi-Hung Lin stated that NYCU is willing to provide its accumulated popular science materials and course content. The university also invites corporate SDG programs and universities nationwide to participate in teacher training, jointly taking on social responsibility to enhance AI literacy across the population and share the benefits of AI and semiconductor development.
