Enhance the Effectiveness of Clinical Internship Education by Bilateral Meetings

2023-11-09

The internship course is a practical learning program that adapt to the professional competences. For students majoring in medical, clinical internship courses are mandatory prerequisites for national examinations. Once the clinical internship training is completed, students are eligible to participate in specialized national examinations for occupational and technical professionals. After passing the exams, they obtain the professional license required to work in the medical field.
After completing basic and specialized courses at the university, medical students are assigned to teaching hospitals to complete practical learning that aligns with their professional competencies. This integration of academic theory and practical application enhances the clinical expertise. To evaluate students’ clinical internship experiences and teaching effectiveness of teaching hospitals, the university regularly conducts bilateral meetings with the participation of the university president, relevant administrators, and the teaching hospitals. These meetings include discussions with full-time teachers and students, with the teaching and internship situations and work in collaboration with teaching hospitals to resolve any related problems.
In order to improve the quality of student clinical internship education and assigning full-time or project-based teachers to teaching hospitals, the university also recruits outstanding clinical doctors to guide students during their clinical internships. The university offers medical clinical courses within the teaching hospitals, such as “Emergency and Critical Care Imaging”, “High-fidelity Simulation Training”, “Clinical Practice Analysis”, “OSCE Training and Practice Course”, and other elective courses at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital, led by Professor Ming-ting Wu and Professor Fu-Zong Wu. Additionally, teachers like Professor Yi-Hsing Chen at Taichung Veterans General Hospital offer advanced core clinical courses and national exam review courses to improve students’ clinical skills, with more than 80% of internship students enrolling.
