Innovation Ignites Brilliance at the 2025 NYCU College of Medicine Academic Symposium

2025-06-13

At the vibrant intersection of medicine and innovation, sparks of brilliance were set ablaze during the 2025 NYCU Medicine Symposium, hosted by the College of Medicine and primarily organized by Associate Dean Professor Yi-Hsuan Lee. Held at the Medical Building on the Yangming Campus, the event brought together 145 guests, including experts from academia, industry, and NYCU faculty and students, under the banner: “Innovation × Excellence × Value Creation.”

This annual gathering was more than a scholarly showcase — it was a launching pad for future breakthroughs. From pioneering brain science to industry collaboration and cutting-edge student research, the symposium reflected NYCU’s commitment to translating research into real-world solutions.

From Bench to Bedside: A Vision of Translational Medicine

The symposium spotlighted five major themes: industry-academia collaboration, new drug development trends, research outcomes from university- and college-level centers, a student poster competition, and sessions on innovation incubation and technology transfer.

A featured session, led by NYCU’s Center for Intellectual Property Management and Promotion, offered a deep dive into the journey of innovation, from laboratory discovery to real-world application. The talk demystified the value creation process of tech transfer, empowering students and researchers to move beyond publication and into impactful societal contributions.

Where Academia Meets Industry: A Gathering of Thought Leaders

The event welcomed an esteemed roster of guests. NYCU President Chi-Hung Lin, Vice Presidents Muh-Hwa Yang and Tzu-Hao Cheng, along with several prominent figures from the biomedical and research sectors, were in attendance.

“Distinguished guests included Dr. Jessie Ni, Vice President of BIOLEGEND; Dr. Han-Chung Wu, Director, and Dr. Wen-Shan Li, Deputy Director of the Biomedical Translation Research Center at Academia Sinica; and NYCU alumni leaders such as Dr. Hung-Jen Chang, Dr. Tzu-Chen Yen, and Professor Ching-Yao Huang, Chief of the Office of Industry-Academia Cocreation. Their presence underscored the university’s growing influence in both academic and industrial medical innovation.”

Bridging Innovation, Practice, and Impact

This academic exchange was not merely an event — it was a manifestation of NYCU’s interdisciplinary innovation ethos. By bridging foundational research with clinical applications and facilitating pathways from campus labs to industry partnerships, the symposium reaffirmed the university’s commitment to meaningful societal impact.

Looking ahead, Dean of the College of Medicine Shuu-Jiun Wang stated that the College aims to deepen its collaborative efforts, amplify its research capabilities, and drive greater value in medical technology — ensuring that innovation continues to serve and uplift society.
