Construction of the multi-purpose sharing space on the sixth floor of the Chiao Tung campus was completed in September 2020. It represents an accomplishment of the library’s plans for a gradual spatial transformation in recent years, in line with the themes of using space actively and breaking down spatial boundaries between the library and people.
With sharing and cocreation as its starting point, the space, named Creative Yard, manifests the ideas of exchange and sharing that are evident in the public space of a prototypical village. The space features gender-neutral restrooms on various floors and conveys the notions of diversity, openness, and sharing. In addition to five female restrooms, five urinals for the male restroom, and a wide barrier-free restroom, three gender-neutral restrooms were also installed at convenient locations. The facility represents a breakthrough in our move away from traditional, restrictive notions of gender and encourages teachers and students on campus to do the same; it provides a safe, nondiscriminatory, and friendly learning environment for everyone.
