“Understanding the world, comprehending the environment, and defining values” are essential qualities that are cultivated during one’s university years. Establishing an “international perspective” is necessary to align with the international community, career options, environmental understanding and workplace settings. It is a fundamental aspect of modern citizenship and knowledge. The NYCU’s Liberal Arts College, as part of the core curriculum of general education, offers the course “Examining International Relations through Examples from the Taiwan Strait”. This course, with has historical perspective that covers a century of national development, combines examples of interactions between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. The instructors are scholars with expertise in military affairs, history, and diplomatic practices. The course also invited guest speakers, including a U2 pilot from the Republic of China Air Force’s 35th Black Cat Squadron during the Cold War, who provided first-hand reports of the history and war practices related to the Taiwan Strait. Additionally, a video titled “Analysis of the Russia-Ukraine War from a Liberal Arts Perspective: Insights into National Security and Defense Strategy Analysis” has been produced. In this video, we analyze the current international situation and decision-making in times of war, deeply consider the relationship between “decisive guidance” and “endgame guidance.” Through this, we aim to understand the interests and values of nations in international relations by strengthening systemic thinking and the content related to “international”, “cross-strait,” and “historical and cultural” aspects.
