Pedestrian priority on campus

NYCU prioritizes pedestrian access and treats walking as the default mode on campus. In 2020, it completed a 100-meter, 1.8-meter-wide tree-lined promenade that physically separates pedestrians from vehicles. Dedicated pedestrian zones are clearly delineated and closed to motor traffic. These measures are anchored by campus Traffic Management Guidelines that set a 30 km/h speed limit, require prior approval for any vehicle entry into designated pedestrian areas, and mandate speed reductions at campus gates to minimize risks to people walking.
•On the Guangfu Campus, upgrades renewed a 250-meter core section of Jinzhu Avenue and adjacent open spaces near the Library, plus an ~50-meter dorm-area walkway with refreshed notice boards—delivering 2,400 m² of improved public realm.
•On the Yangming Campus, a campus-wide pedestrian network is in place, with routine inspections and continuous improvements. In 2024, the University added accessible walkways and new pedestrian/amenity spaces around residence halls, expanded dedicated footpaths, and enhanced everyday walkability. During construction, signed pedestrian detours are provided to maintain safe, convenient movement. These barrier-free investments and proactive measures demonstrate that pedestrian movement is a campus priority.
