Education for SDGs in the wider community

■Alumni
The Continuing Education Center provides alumni with free or discounted access to a wide range of courses on topics such as ESG, sustainable energy, and innovation design, thereby supporting their personal and professional growth.

■Local community
The university established the “ewant Open Education Platform” with the aim of sharing higher education resources with the public, expanding educational opportunities for senior high school students, fostering self-directed learning, and increasing the flexibility of elective courses. Our faculty traveled to Matsu (Nangan) to deliver an Introduction to Semiconductor Principles & Manufacturing for Matsu Senior High School, providing complete digital courseware (videos, handouts, pacing guides) and course support via the ewant platform. In addition, the University established the “Gong Academy,” integrated with the existing “University for Active Aging” and the “Silver Fitness Club,” centered on lifelong learning. The program welcomes mid- to older-age learners back to campus for courses in brain health, personal finance, wellness, AI literacy and sharing, and language.

■Displaced people and refugees
Since 2022, NYCU’s Ukraine Program and scholarships enable students displaced by war to continue education in Taiwan, with Mandarin courses to aid integration. The university’s undergraduate individual application program established the “Tun-Meng Group.” This group provides a special admission screening mechanism for disadvantaged students, including lowering entrance exam score requirements, simplifying the screening process, reducing application fees, and offering transportation and accommodation subsidies during the exam period. These measures aim to increase admission opportunities for disadvantaged students, narrow the educational resource gap caused by wealth and urban-rural divides and differences, and create new opportunities for talent cultivation in higher education institutions.
