In response to the development trends of 5G and Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) smart medicine, Chunghwa Telecom, National Chiao Tung University, and National Yang-Ming University jointly signed a letter of intent to establish an industry–academia technology collaboration and combine the advantages of the three organizations. National Chiao Tung University is a pioneer in the development of electronic & information technology in Taiwan, National Yang-Ming University is known for its advanced medical care professionalism and clinical practice experience, and Chunghwa Telecom is Taiwan’s industry leader in the integration of telecommunications and information communications technology. The objective of the collaboration is to develop advanced smart medical services based on 5G AIoT, thereby paving the way for the establishment of smart hospitals that offer patient-centered holistic care.
At present, the three organizations intend to develop smart medical care solutions through technical collaborations. For example, “Smart Home Program for Sleep and Health Care” was jointly developed by the Digital Medicine Center of National Yang-Ming University and Chunghwa Telecom to facilitate industry–academia cooperation. Chunghwa Telecom’s Personal Health Record system was designed to collect the patient’s sleep data and other physiological data (e.g., blood oxygen level) from the electrocardiogram at home. National Yang-Ming University then used the collected data and its AI smart sleep platform to conduct diagnostic and treatment analyses, as well as facilitate the scheduling of follow-up appointments and treatments by its affiliated hospital. National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, which was created through the merger of National Chiao Tung University and National Yang-Ming University, established a proof of concept for the validation of smart medical technology with the aim of jointly building smart hospitals in the future.
