Selected as the first female winner of the Taiwan Photonics Society’s Optoelectronics Engineering Award in 40 years, Professor Horng Ray-Hua is not only an active promoter of internationalizing optoelectronics research; she also puts in her best effort to help female researchers balance teaching, research and family life.
Women did not expect that giving birth to children would become a stumbling block to their career. To break the hidden barriers in the society, Professor Horng Ray-Hua established the Women in Optics @Taiwan Committee in the Taiwan Photonics Society this year. The committee systematically organizes the key points in project applications and new scientific knowledge to enable “mother” researchers to efficiently exchange information. Given their high homogeneity, the members also occasionally share interesting things about their lives outside of work, and quickly become a close supportive circle of friends.
Professor Horng Ray-Hua ‘s research spans across optoelectronics, electronics and micro-electromechanics. Her patents have also won the National Invention Award, and 5 outstanding technological transfer contributions awards and outstanding awards from the Ministry of Science and Technology. In the future, she will continue to contribute to the optoelectronics industry and research. In addition, as a female award winner, she encourages female researchers to become involved in optoelectronics innovation and entrepreneurship.
