To improve students’ international mobility and employability, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) continually promotes overseas internships. Using funds from the Ministry of Education through its Overseas Internship Program and New Southbound Overseas Internship Program, the university selected 66 students to participate in internships offered by overseas enterprises and institutes in 2018 and 2019. Through the overseas internship programs, students can participate in cross-cultural learning while they are still in school to gain a solid understanding of management and operation in foreign enterprises and expand their personal horizon and knowledge. Students with outstanding performance are also likely to be prioritized by international enterprises in future recruitment.
NCTU engages in close collaboration with enterprises to promote university-level internship programs. For example, the university has collaborated with Delta Electronics since 2018 to execute the Delta Electronics European Headquarters Overseas Internship Program, in which rigorously selected students are sent to the European headquarters of Delta Electronics to participate in 6 months of professional internships. The first cohort of students completed the internship program in 2019, and one Indian student received a formal employment offer from the enterprise after the program. Because of the program’s success, NCTU and Delta Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding on October 1, 2019. In the future, the university will continue to send students to the European headquarters of Delta Electronics for internships.
This overseas internship policy not only helps students enhance their international employability but also facilitates the cultivation of talented individuals needed in industry, improving the overall competitiveness of Taiwan.
