The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented foreign students from pursuing their studies in Taiwan. To address this problem, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) has provided remote courses for students to continue their education, establishing a special virtual campus project for students enrolling in dual-degree with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). This allows students in IIT to complete school registration, pay tuition fees, attend selected courses, and receive research feedback from their advisors over the Internet.
To actively recruit and cultivate talented individuals with international visions, NYCU has expanded its operation to India, collaborating with IIT to offer dual-degree doctoral programs since 2017. NYCU has also worked with well-known local enterprises in Taiwan to meet the industrial demand for higher education talents. Scholarships, internships, and employment opportunities are provided by these enterprises to foreign students.
In 2020, Indian students participating in the dual-degree program were interrupted as they could not enter Taiwan to attend courses as the result of the pandemic. In response to this situation, NYCU quickly integrated its administrative sources and information systems to implement a virtual campus project for IIT students. This project allowed these students to receive remote teaching and discuss their research with advisors in NYCU from outside Taiwan and demonstrated the focus of NYCU on cultivating international talent.
