National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is a member of the Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU). In response to the current difficulties in promoting higher education in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, NYCU collaborated with the AEARU’s Secretariat in the second semester of the 2020 academic year to develop the Global Learning Initiative Program, in which remote English-taught courses were offered to students in the 19 AEARU member universities. Four NYCU colleges, namely the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, International College of Semiconductor Technology, College of Hakka Studies, and Institute of Technology Law, participated in the program that offered seven remote English-taught courses, the highest number of courses among all member universities. A total of 57 students from the partnering universities enrolled in these courses.
To assist students in gaining international experience without the need to travel abroad during the pandemic, NYCU also collaborated with its sister schools in foreign countries, encouraging students to enroll in short-term remote courses and dual-degree program courses offered by these schools. NCYU also engaged in international exchanges with its top sister schools to increase the opportunities for interdisciplinary learning. In addition, scholarships and grants were provided to facilitate student learning.
