Promoting the Idea of Care behind Lab Research

2022-03-22

Professor Hsiao-Wen Zan from Department of Photonics, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University was interviewed by the Ministry of Science and Technology for Global Affairs and Science Engagement (MOST GASE) and shared how to use “care” as the starting point to introduce the field of life and medical care into the technology forecasting.

  1. Technology comes from human nature, and research starts from care
The “Gas Sensing Technology Platform” developed by Prof. Zan’s team has been verified for a wide range of applications; So far, hundreds of clinical data have been completed.
  2. Go your own way, there is no gender difference
Prof. Zan won the 4th Taiwan Outstanding Women in Science awards and the Outstanding Professor Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering. Currently, she is the chairman of the Women Engineers Committee of the IEEE Taipei Branch. She regularly holds speeches on campus to talk about reversing gender stereotypes, motivating plenty of female students who are currently involved in scientific research. She further emphasized that scientific research is gender-neutral: “As long as you have interest and passion, step out bravely. Do not limit yourself, gender differences do not exist!”
