In the end of the annual COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) and the American Climate Club (ACC) have jointly signed a MOU. The two parties will collaborate in establishing the American Taiwan Climate Club (ATCC), which is aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 in line with global standards.
NYCU and ACC have jointly signed an MOU and will collaborate in establishing the American Taiwan Climate Club (ATCC), aiming to enhance Taiwan’s influence on the international carbon trading stage.
ACC’s core members are also involved in the development of the Singapore Carbon Credit Standard, contributing extensive international experience to the Taiwan undertaking. Accordingly, ATCC, jointly established by NYCU and ACC, will assist Taiwan in creating a set of internationally aligned carbon standards and propose an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policy white paper. Representatives from both NYCU and ACC will further attend the COP28 United Nations Climate Summit in Dubai this year, aiming to enhance Taiwan’s influence on the international carbon trading stage.
ACC is a multinational international organization registered in Texas, USA, with credentials to manage carbon projects among G7 member countries, playing a crucial role in global energy and climate security issues. Through the establishment of the American Taiwan Climate Club, NYCU aims to position Taiwan as a key player in international environmental conservation.
Forthcoming, ATCC will assist NYCU in establishing internationally aligned carbon standards and advocate relevant policy white papers. President Chi-Hung Lin of NYCU aspires to elevate, “NYCU to be a world-class university and a key player in global high-tech research and innovation. We will integrate the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as the development framework for the university, committed to nurturing talents with a sense of global citizenship and conducting research to promote human well-being. Through the establishment of ATCC, we hope to make Taiwan an international hub for environmental protection and secure a position in the global carbon market.”
Nicole T.I. Chan, President of NYCU Fintech Node preparatory office, further emphasized, “This collaboration will open a door for Taiwan, promoting the integration of carbon credits with international trade, advancing international dialogue and circulation of carbon credits, and create more development value for Taiwan’s green economy.”
Through the joint efforts of ACC and NYCU, this can provide more opportunities for Taiwan to participate in international ESG projects.
Gary Clyne, Chairman of ACC, expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the efforts of ACC’s important member FiO, we have facilitated cooperation with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. This letter of intent represents the collaboration between Taiwan and the United States in five major areas: 1) climate and carbon education promotion; 2) international connectivity; 3) carbon project investment; 4) carbon consulting services; and 5) policy research and advisory think tanks. Together, we are committed to advancing the cause of climate protection.
We firmly believe that, through the joint efforts of ACC and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, we can bring new directions and vitality to Taiwan on the international stage of net-zero emissions—moving towards a greener, more sustainable future and providing more opportunities for Taiwan to participate in international ESG projects.”
