Professor Jehng-Jung Kao from NYCU Institute of Environmental Engineering led his team to build completely zero-waste self-recycling urban farms on concrete floors such as roofs and balconies. With the circular rooftop farm, people can grow vegetables on their own and cool down the roofs simultaneously, thereby achieving energy saving and carbon reduction, as well as reducing the heat island effect. The team has coached more than 70 educational institutions to build their own DIY farm, allowing students to learn vegetable gardening and raw food processing from the farm to the dining table.
