Hult Prize is a global annual competition founded in 2009 by Ahmad Ashkar of the HULT International Business School; it is held in partnership with the United Nations. Known as the Nobel Prize for university students, the Hult Prize is an entrepreneurship- and commerce-based competition for university students. The topic of the Hult Prize 2021 challenge is Food for Good: Transforming Food into a Vehicle for Change. Students worldwide were invited to reflect on the concept of food and its production, distribution, and consumption. This entrepreneurship-based competition was attended by university students from around the world with the aim of establishing social enterprises pursuing sustainable development.
National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Center for Industry–Academia Collaboration provided the funding for the Hult Prize 2021 competition in order to support to development of social purpose corporations (SPC). In December 2020, participating teams were formed and promoted for campus preliminary selection. Most participants were students who come from Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Their business models mainly involved agricultural management technology, food distribution systems, waste recycling, and FNB (food and beverage) innovations.
PHxTW team (Bukid), which comprised of Filipino and Taiwanese students, were qualified to represent National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University at the 2021 regional competition. The team meticulously elaborate an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that incorporated agricultural, educational, and logistics management applications. The proposed system utilizes technology to solve the managerial problems of farmers and the market.
