The Mental Health and Counseling Center of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) aims to give back to the community by creating a friendly living environment that is conducive to the physical, mental, and spiritual health of residents. Since 2011, the Mental Health and Counseling Center has been providing community services and conducting activities every year during the summer vacation for community members of various demographics according to their needs. The center’s activities include telephone counseling, film appreciation, and discussions, and group workshops. A diverse range of topics are featured in these activities; they include parenting, emotional loss, emotional care, and sexuality, and gender identity. A series of summertime activities involving the participation of various populations in the community is organized to facilitate the establishment of a friendly and mutually beneficial relationship between the university and the community.
In the summer of 2020, Mental Health and Counseling Center along with the families around the community had a great time singing and laughing together, lighting up an intimate moment between parent and child. Two “fun with the rhythm” workshops were held, during which parents and their children enjoyed intimate moments together as they sang and laughed while dancing together. The events were attended by 19 groups of parents and children aged 2–4 years. Through integrated art lessons and parent-child participation, the children’s passion and talent for music were explored. After the event, the parents expressed their appreciation for the parent-child rhythm activity and their desire for NYCU to continue organizing related activities and providing professional counseling services to the community.
