August 1st of each year is the National Aboriginal Day. To re-examine the inter-subjectivity of the historical perspectives of the indigenous peoples and the Hakka people, the NCTU College of Hakka Studies launched the “Tribute to the Indigenous Peoples: Take perspective to write the Development History of the Taiwanese Hakka” project. An academic research workshop signing ceremony was held on the 7th, and scholars will invited to participate in the future. Through investigating relevant historical materials of the indigenous peoples and the Hakka, the academic research of Taiwanese ethnic groups will be enhanced.
Minister of the Hakka Affairs Council Yiong Con-ziin, Deputy Minister of the Council of Indigenous Peoples Qucung Qalavangan and others placed stones inked with their signatures into the pot of a camphor tree to symbolize that their agreement is as solid as a rock. The NCTU College of Hakka Studies said that unlike the inking models in past historical conceptualization of the Han people, the “Take perspective to write the Development History of the Taiwanese Hakka” project explores affairs that are relevant to the common experiences of the indigenous peoples and the Hakka. It is hoped that discussions between scholars from both sides can stimulate more research ideas and perspectives regarding the ethnic groups.
Associate Dean of the NCTU College of Hakka Studies Lo Lieh-Shih said, “We are always looking at things from the perspective of the Hakka people, and so we think of things in a certain way. But when we look at things from the perspective of the indigenous peoples, we will have different ideas. This is the spirit of taking from a different perspective. Essentially, this project is carried out based on this thinking.
