“Murals from a Golden Age: Tang Dynasty Murals Exhibition, Part I” was held at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Arts Center. Cohosted by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Exchange Association, Chinese Hanwei Cultural Promotion Association, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, the exhibition presented the treasured collection of the Shaanxi History Museum (including classic murals from the tombs of nine Tang dynasty noblemen and royal family members) to the Taiwanese public through high-quality images, films, and models. By deciphering the rich information and clues hidden in the murals, the exhibition revealed the various aspects of the Tang dynasty (e.g., its art, culture, society, religions, politics, economy, and diplomatic and military affairs) from more than 1,000 years ago. The exhibition also displayed the tomb structure as well as the process of producing and obtaining the murals from an archaeological perspective. Such information allowed visitors to appreciate both the rich culture of the Tang dynasty and the importance of archaeology and cultural artifact protection.
