Off-campus water conservation support

The university actively supports off-campus water conservation efforts, aligns with relevant policies, and promotes water-saving practices on its website. The “Environment Technology & Smart System Research Center (ETSS)” collaborates with government bodies and international partners, aiming to work with individuals and organisations in water environmental management, water resource utilisation technologies, and the equipment industry, both locally and globally. Through research initiatives, such as (1) using bio-inspired nanotechnology to develop seawater desalination mechanisms with high efficiency, low energy consumption, and low carbon emissions, and (2) reducing the impact of brine discharge from seawater desalination through engineering research, we aim to enhance the development of off-campus water conservation and utilisation measures.

Additionally, Professor Liang-Cheng Chang from NYCU’s Department of Civil Engineering has made remarkable contributions to national groundwater management. With over 30 years of research in groundwater monitoring and management, he was awarded the highest honour, the “Da-Yu Award” by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). He is also one of the founders of the “Taiwan Society of Groundwater Resources and Hydrogeology,” which collaborates with our university to hold an annual seminar. The recent 2023 seminar, hosted at NYCU’s Hsinchu campus, brought together participants from government, academia, and industry to discuss the “Sustainable Utilisation of Groundwater Resources.”
