Policy for minimisation of plastic use

Since 2017, the university has enforced a campus-wide ban on plastic bags, including biodegradable ones, under the Limitations on the Use of Plastic Shopping Bags policy. The ban was extended in 2019 to cover single-use tableware and plastic straws in campus restaurants. In 2022, a program was launched to reduce disposable tableware and packaged drinking water. By 2024, all campus restaurants offered increased discounts for students and staff using eco-friendly containers, encouraging a shift away from single-use plastics. Vendors are also required to provide reusable containers and cups for campus events. The Catering Management Committee meets regularly with vendors to promote further reductions in plastic use and minimize disposable items.
