Commitment to carbon neutral university

NYCU announced its Net-Zero Emissions Declaration in 2023, pledging to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. NYCU is implementing energy management systems, expanding renewable energy, improving efficiency, and promoting waste reduction and reuse. In 2024, NYCU commissioned a consultancy to complete the 2023 GHG inventory and obtained third-party verification in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018. Verified emissions totaled 79,047.28 tCO₂e, with Scope 2 (electricity) and Scope 4 (products and services) accounting for 88.77% each. In response, NYCU is accelerating the adoption of renewable energy, strengthening management, and providing low-carbon mobility options, such as U-Bike and oloo (electric scooters). The campus also maintains over 5,000 trees, serving as natural carbon sinks. Our students have also formed the Sustainable Prospect Club (SPC), which drives peer-to-peer influence for practical carbon reduction actions and lifestyle changes.
