100% renewable energy pledge

NYCU formally issued its Net Zero Emissions Statement, reaffirming its pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and aligning university governance with Taiwan’s national net-zero goals. NYCU advanced its commitment to renewable energy and sustainability through key initiatives in research, education, and governance. The university partnered with Alpha Ring Co., Ltd. to establish the “Alpha Ring Tainan Laboratory” and launch the world’s first “Alpha-E Nuclear Fusion Education System,” combining experimental facilities and courses to promote nuclear fusion as a clean energy solution. The College of Engineering also hosted the 2024 Tang Prize Master Forum on Sustainable Development, where laureate Professor Omar M. Yaghi presented pioneering research on carbon capture, hydrogen storage, and sustainable materials, offering innovative pathways to address global climate challenges. In addition, NYCU has obtained Taiwan Renewable Energy Certificates (T-RECs) and tracks green electricity in its campus energy ledger, demonstrating a firm commitment to low-carbon operations and net-zero emissions while catalyzing the adoption of green power and market development.
