4/19 (Sun.) Six Waves of Migration × Hsinchu Grand Tour

2026-03-31

[Liberal Arts College (LAC)] April 19 (Sun)Six Waves of Migration × Hsinchu Grand Tour: Wave 6 – Emerging Community: Hukou United as One Family

Having walked through the development of the old city and the expansion of Hakka settlements, through stories of protection and displacement, integration and transformation—
Hsinchu’s story has always continued through time.

Now, in the sixth wave, we step into the present.

In Hukou Old Street, between red bricks and arcades,
the everyday lives of Hakka and mainlander communities intertwine.
These are traces left by migrants of different eras,
and also a shared landscape of daily coexistence.

In Fenghuang Village, another story is unfolding.
“New residents” from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines
bring with them their languages, cuisines, and cultures,
infusing Hsinchu with new rhythms and flavors.

They come for work, settle into life, and gradually carve out their place in this city.

In this wave, we turn our attention to the flows of the present—witnessing cultures meeting again and being rewoven, and seeing how “a community of diverse cultures” is taking shape as part of everyday life.

📍 Step into Hukou
📍 Step into Fenghuang Village

Together, let’s witness the next chapter of Hsinchu’s story.
