The National Talent Development Award hailed as the “Oscar of Talent Development” in the corporate world, is the highest honor in Taiwan’s human resources sector. This year, the Laser System Research Center (LSRC) at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), recommended by the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Branch of the Workforce Development Agency, claimed the Outstanding Case Award, highlighting its exceptional achievements in nurturing technological talent.
Innovative Approaches to Cultivate Tech Leaders
Through close collaboration with the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Branch, NYCU’s LSRC actively participates in initiatives such as the “Industrial Elite Program,” the “Semiconductor Industry Professional Development Base,” and the “Talent Development Base for Semiconductor and Key Technology Industries.” These efforts aim to address the pressing shortage of skilled workers in the tech sector.
The center’s curriculum is highly adaptive, emphasizing interdisciplinary learning and even enabling individuals without a STEM background to transition into the semiconductor industry, breaking traditional boundaries in talent development. A standout innovation is its “Corporate Specialized Program,” which tailors courses to meet specific business needs, fostering stronger local partnerships and setting a new standard in talent cultivation.
Beyond technological advancement, the center integrates the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its curriculum to promote high-quality education and humanistic care. This initiative creates a supportive environment for lifelong learning while demonstrating NYCU’s commitment to university social responsibility (USR).
A National Honor Driving Workforce Development
This year, the National Talent Development Award attracted 116 entries from various organizations, with only 22 ultimately winning recognition. Director Chia-Jen Lai of the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli Branch noted that the award aims to elevate the quality of Taiwan’s workforce, encouraging businesses and organizations to invest in talent development. The initiative seeks to create a positive feedback loop in talent cultivation nationwide by transforming human capital into intellectual capital.
