Mental health support for students

NYCU provides comprehensive mental health support for its students through a multifaceted approach.

■ The university’s Health and Counseling Center is the central hub for these services. Throughout the year of 2024, it has launched a diverse range of mental health promotion activities to reduce stigma and encourage students to seek help. These include university-wide lectures on topics like mindfulness and emotional regulation, workshops for self-exploration and psychodrama, film screenings, and interactive exhibitions.

■ For direct and accessible support, each department has a dedicated department counselor. They provide comprehensive services, from new student orientation to crisis intervention, offering guidance on academic challenges, relationships, and interpersonal concerns. To ensure support is available at all times, the university also provides a 24/7 Mental Health Helpline, allowing students to speak with a trained professional for immediate assistance during a crisis.

■ Recognizing the rising levels of stress, NYCU has also instituted a Mental Health Leave policy. Students can apply for up to three days of leave per semester without needing to provide proof (parental permission is required), allowing them time to address their mental well-being.
