Sustainable practices targets

NYCU measures usage and sets targets across commuting modes to drive a sustained shift toward low-carbon travel. For cycling and shared micromobility, we track infrastructure and demand (e.g., bicycle parking provision and shared-bike/e-scooter ridership). For campus and inter-campus transit, we record shuttle passenger counts and use these data to set annual modal-shift and emissions-reduction goals. A key target is the phased replacement of diesel shuttles with electric buses, projected to reduce fuel use by ~89,900 liters and CO₂ emissions by ~240 tons per year.
The University implements a comprehensive portfolio of measures to promote green commuting among staff and students, including:
•Free bicycle parking across campuses to encourage cycling and first/last-mile access.
•Pedestrian-first design and stair-use campaigns to prioritize active mobility.
•Inter-campus shuttle services to reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips.
•Partnerships with bus operators to provide discounted fares for students and staff.
•Integrated public transport links connecting campuses to Taiwan Railways (TRA) and the Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR).
•Electric-vehicle charging infrastructure in university car parks.
•Shared-mobility options, including car-sharing (iRent), shared e-motorcycles and e-scooters (OLOO), and bike sharing (YouBike).
