I. Providing customized service and helping disabled students accustomed to college life
In 2021, we served a total of 95 students with special needs. Individualized support services were provided for students with disabilities in four aspects; namely, their life, schoolwork, career, and mental health. Furthermore, diverse counseling activities were organized according to the student’s unique needs to help them adapt to campus life and complete their coursework smoothly.
Disabilities among students can be implicit or explicit, and they hinder the various aspects of their life, including their studies and interpersonal relationships. The university organizes activities that serve to foster acceptance and empathy, such as simulations for able-bodied people to experience disabilities and film appreciation events pertaining to special education to promote understanding toward disabilities among teachers and students. Our off-campus efforts include a National Education Radio broadcasting program “A Special Love” that is targeted toward the public; the program features narrations of experiences of counseling and practical tips regarding special education to foster a friendly campus atmosphere. The program also helps students with disabilities to develop their potential and overcome adversity. “I Succeeded Despite Adversity: An Experience of Counseling Support Services for Students With Physical Illness.”

II. Equipping Campus Map with a Search Function for Barrier-Free Facilities to Ensure Accessibility
The Yangming campus is located at the foothills of the Qilian Mountains, and it is built according to the topography of the hillside. To facilitate the passage of people with disabilities and help students find barrier-free facilities, the “Yangming EasyGo: A Portal for Inspecting and Finding Barrier-Free Facilities on Campus” is provided.
