Maximization of high-quality teaching and research resources, a mutually beneficial alliance between domestic and foreign libraries after the University merger

2023-03-28

In April 2021, the university library and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Hsinchu County Government signed a mutual book loan agreement to enhance the cooperative relationship between the two parties by sharing resources. Everyone who has a library card from the Cultural Affairs Bureau library is eligible to borrow a library card from the university library. Each card can be used to borrow 5 items from the university library (the borrowing period is 30 days), promoting lifelong learning and professional development among the broader public by allowing them to use the high-quality academic resources of the university library. In addition to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the libraries of the two campuses before the universities merged already had their own library card exchange partners (13 cooperating libraries of Yang-Ming University, and more than 60 cooperating libraries of Chiao Tung University). Taking advantage of the 2021 merger, in addition to regional primary and secondary schools and local libraries, buildings and resource cooperating libraries of the two campuses will also be opened to the members of the two campuses. In addition, by entering into membership of the international organization RapidILL system, member libraries share authorized periodicals and literature with one another, which is helpful for scientific and academic research that requires the support of many published papers. In 2021, NYCU applied to access 2,100 pieces of literature from the RapidILL system. Furthermore, the University provided 2,143 pieces of literature to other RapidILL members, achieving the goal of knowledge-sharing through global partnerships and the sustainable development of high-quality teaching and research resources.
