Policy for minimisation of disposable items

Since 2019, the university has banned disposable tableware and single-use plastic straws in all campus restaurants under the Restrictions for the Use of Disposable Tableware policy. In 2022, it introduced the Reducing the Use of Disposable Tableware and Packaged Drinking Water Program, which encourages students and staff to bring eco-friendly containers by offering dining discounts. These discounts were increased in 2024 to further curb single-use items. In addition, cafeteria vendors are required to provide only reusable containers and cups for on-campus meetings and catered events. Together, these measures demonstrate the university’s commitment to minimizing disposable waste and promoting sustainable practices.
